WhatsApp has recently introduced a feature that allows users to log into their WhatsApp desktop or web using biometric authentication. This new security measure includes scanning your fingerprints, face, or iris. By combining this with the existing QR code, WhatsApp aims to enhance the protection of your data in case of a data breach on your phone or computer.
The latest update is available for iOS 14 devices that have Face ID or Touch ID. Android users will receive the update if their phone has any type of biometric authentication capability. Those who do not have biometric authentication support will still be able to use the QR code system.
Regarding the occurrence of unfortunate chat mishaps appearing in Google search results, WhatsApp affirms that they will not retain any biometric information and assures complete security. They also highlight this feature as safeguarding against breaches in the event of unauthorized access to a user’s phone, where someone might attempt data theft by logging into the web platform or desktop application using the QR code.
After reaching an agreement with the Indian government and WhatsApp, they expanded their payment options to cater to everyone, including the Indian market which has a large user base. They will utilize their API payment system to facilitate transactions for goods and services. Additionally, they have future plans to introduce insurance and pension schemes in this market.
According to the official statement released by WhatsApp:
“This will reduce the possibility of someone, such as a roommate or colleague (in the future), connecting their devices to your WhatsApp account without your knowledge. This enhancement amplifies our current security features that send a notification to your phone whenever a login occurs on the web/desktop version. Additionally, it allows you to disconnect devices from your phone whenever you want.”
Currently, following the debacle, WhatsApp confirms that they are not retaining any information that has been the subject of recent controversy due to their updated privacy policy. They also assure users that they will introduce additional security features, both in the cloud and on your phone, to safeguard your account. Furthermore, WhatsApp pledges to introduce exciting new features and enhancements in upcoming updates throughout the year.
Overall, WhatsApp’s main focus is ensuring the security of their users and preventing them from migrating to other similar platforms such as Signal and Telegram.
